Granary is a budgeting app for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple Watch. The short version: we don't collect your data. Your budget stays on your devices and in your own iCloud account.
What Granary stores, and where
- On your devices. Your bins, amounts, income, entries, notes, repeating items and settings are stored on each device where you use Granary.
- On your Apple Watch. Your iPhone sends your watch a summary of your bins (names, colors and what's left) over Apple's secure connection between them, and the watch sends back purchases you log on it. Nothing passes through our servers.
- In your iCloud account (Granary Plus). If you have Granary Plus, your budget syncs between your devices through your private iCloud database. It's stored under your Apple Account. We can't read it.
- In a share you create. If you share your budget, the people you invite can see and change it. Shared budgets are stored in your iCloud account and shared through Apple's CloudKit sharing. Everyone in a shared budget sees each other's names as their iCloud accounts show them, and the name of whoever logged each entry.
- Automatic backups. Granary keeps copies of your budget in the app's own storage on each device, so you can restore it after a mistake. They never leave the device unless you export a backup yourself.
What we collect
Nothing. Granary has no account to create, no analytics, no advertising and no third-party code that collects data. We don't sell, rent or share anything, because we don't have it. This website has no cookies, analytics or trackers either.
Bank accounts and payments
Granary doesn't connect to banks and can't move money. If you import a file (a CSV export from another app or your bank), it's read on your device, and nothing is added until you review it.
If you import from Apple Card or set up a Wallet automation in Shortcuts, the transactions are read on your iPhone through Apple's own frameworks. They're added to your budget on the device and aren't sent to us.
Purchases of Granary Plus are handled by Apple. We don't see your payment details.
Receipts and photos
When you scan a receipt, the image is read on your device to find the total, date and store. The image isn't stored or uploaded.
On-device suggestions
Granary can suggest a bin for a purchase using Apple's on-device intelligence. This runs on your device; nothing is sent to us.
Problem reports
If you choose Report a Problem, Granary opens an email for you to read before sending. It includes the app version, your device type and system version, the sync status, and recent error messages. It doesn't include your budget. Crash and hang reports that Apple collects with your permission may be shared with us by Apple, without identifying you.
Deleting your data
- Delete a bin, or the app, to remove data from a device.
- If you use iCloud sync, remove Granary's data in Settings › your name › iCloud › Manage Storage.
- To leave a shared budget, use Settings › Sharing › Leave Shared Budget. The owner can stop sharing at any time.
Children
Granary isn't directed to children under 13 and doesn't knowingly collect information from anyone.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
